HOW TO: Personalize Your Facebook Feeds

Did you know that Facebook automatically picks which friends you view in your feed? How do they know who you want to talk to? There is a way to fix this!  Scroll all the way down to the bottom of your news feed screen. There are two options: “Older Posts” and “Edit Options”.  Click “Edit Options”.  This screen will pop up:

If you click “View Recommended Friends”, it will bring up a list of all the friends/pages that currently appear in your feeds (in other words, who Facebook thinks you want to hear from.) In the box where the number 5000 is highlighted above, the number of friends/pages that are now shown in your Live Feed will appear.  I chose the number 5,000 (the limit) since I have nowhere near 5,000 friends and pages I ‘like’, I will never have to go back and change it.  You can put any number here, but remember to make it larger then your amount of friends, to include any pages you also ‘like’, or you won’t see their updates!

In Case You Missed It: Becky Chats With Striker Corbin About Social Media

I was so honored to be asked to be a guest on the Striker Corbin Motivational Program on BlogTalkRadio.com.  If you don’t know who Striker Corbin is, here is a quick bio:

Often opinionated, sometimes funny, always interesting! Hi everyone and welcome to the Striker Corbin show. I’m Striker Corbin hypnotist, coach, and professional speaker. Each program we’ll show you how to create the reality you desire using your thoughts and emotions. You can be a person who realizes their potential and passion for life. You can bring about change. You were meant to live with happiness and joy. Your life can be rich… it’s time to make it amazing.

In the hour that we had, we spoke about the Save Becky story which led to how I first got involved with Social Media.  We discussed Facebook, Twitter and how they work together and I also gave some tips for people tweeting for the first time as a business or on your own page.  If you missed the show, you can listen to it in it’s entirety below.  I will warn you, I think I said “you know” at least 1,000 times in the hour.  You know, I really have to work on that, you know?

Wordless Wednesday: I’m Quitting You, Facebook

No no, I’m not quitting Facebook, at least not yet.  But this video is pretty funny:

Lose the Ugly! Find your Bliss.

Do you have some ugly pictures? You know, the type that should never be shown again to anyone? Or maybe a picture of an old cell phone, or you rocking an old fad? Well LG wants you clear your ugly pics to Find Your Bliss….LG Bliss phone that is. Facebook users (18 and older) can upload an image or video of anything they consider ugly and want to lose.  With the entry, you will be entered to win a brand new LG Bliss phone.  Only 1 entry is allowed per Facebook account.  The grand prize is the new LG Bliss phone and the secondary prize is a $50 gift card so you can buy your own bliss. There will be five grand prize winners and fifty secondary winners.  User must be 18 years of age or older to enter contest.

The Gallery of the Utterly Ugly (located at LG Bliss Facebook Fan Page) is where you can lose their ugly stuff to clear the way for more Bliss, as well as browse through other people’s ugly leave-behinds. Examples include:

-Trashy Trends (fabulously ugly fashion)
-Mutant machines (these mutant machines and outdated electronics belong in the junkyard)
-Ugly wonders of nature (naturally occurring wonders that make even the ugly tree look good)
-Ugly-mobiles (rides that are heading non-stop to Ugly Town)
*Ugly behavior such as violence, indecency, or illegal activities aren’t tolerated. Photos of people are not allowed.

Since I lost all my pics with my hard drive last month, I thought I could not participate in the contest. However, I found the pic I took of my toe after I ripped off half my toenail in NYC:

Pretty ugly.  Definately getting submitted.  What are you waiting for?? Lose the ugly and find your bliss!

My Life Without Facebook Games

gamebig_farmvilleBefore my computer crisis a few weeks ago, I was a loyal Facebook game player.  My games of choice were Yoville, Farmville and Mob Wars.  I dabbled in Parking Wars, Smarty Pants and My City.  I would go onto Facebook with the primary goal of tending to my crops and working in the Yoville factory and killing some thugs.  I actually would schedule errands around when these things had to be done in the games.  Then, suddenly, my computer crashed and I *gasp* had to be without it for 5 days.  “But my crops!! My crops are gonna die!” was a thought that went through my head that night.  I went through some withdrawals.  I thought about the poor little virtual me in Yoville, with nothing to do for a few days.  When I got my computer back, I had over 150 gift requests for the games.  It was then that I realized all of the time that I actually put into them.  And what did I get out of it? Absolutely NOTHING.  The games are just the biggest time-wasters.  They sucked all my time in Facebook away.  Time that I could be actually corresponding with friends, which was the reason I joined Facebook in the first place.  Since I got my computer back, I took a personal vow to not play the games anymore on Facebook.  Thank you to all of my loyal friends who still send me gifts on there, but I am no longer playing them.  And it feels good. You should try it.
